Many workplaces are riddled with both intentional and unintentional microaggressions, making the work environment feel unsafe for marginalized employees. Many employees consider themselves allies but don't know how to help or make a difference.
This microlearning course is designed to teach employees and their leadership teams what microaggressions look like and what they can do about it in order to be a better advocate for their minority colleagues.
I designed this scenario-based microlearning course in Articulate Rise to simulate a realistic work environment where the learner will need to figure out the microaggression taking place and then know how to respond.

During the analyzing phase of ADDIE, I decided that because of the intensity of this topic, and knowing that many of my learners are potentially learning this information for the first time, that a microlearning course would best fit their needs to avoid cognitive load. I created the outline on Miro for the branching scenario first so I could ensure what I wanted learners to do after completing the training. Especially because this is a microlearning course, I didn't want to overwhelm my learners with too much information that wouldn't be relevant to what behavioral change I wanted to see and analyze after the learning was completed.
After completing the outline for the branching scenario, I wrote the next outline to map out what the rest of the course would like.
Once all outlines were completed, I continued in the development stage of ADDIE and began drafting the storyboard for the course. I created the wireframes for the slides in Figma, then researched and communicated with my SME to write and edit the course content and explainer video script. After this, I wrote and edited the branching scenario, including the potential feedback and outcomes, what each decision point looked like, and the dialogue for the help section within the storyboard.
Given the complexity of the course and that it's designed to be a microlearning experience, I chose to develop it in Articulate Rise. I used the free trial version of Vyond to create the animated portion of the story in the initial explainer video, and I created all avatars and graphics used within Vyond's free library for this portion. For the sections featuring the narrator, I used Adobe Premiere Pro and sourced the background with Adobe Stock, and I created the logo using Illustrator and joined it together with Adobe Express.
I also used the free Adobe Stock library to source the vectors used for the graphics within the course. I then used Adobe Illustrator to create all the graphics used throughout the experience. For the scenario activity, I used PowerPoint to create the avatars, backgrounds, and graphics before developing the activity in Storyline.
